1-2. Buckling of Single Layer Space Frames
There is a variety of shapes and member arrangements for single layer space frames. Among them cylindrical and hemi-spherical shapes are basic forms. Since single layer space frames have rather poor bending rigidity, buckling phenomena are dominant factors for their design. The figure shows one of the results of numerical analyses of buckling behavior of cylinder-sphere-combined single layer frames. Large deformation can be observed at cylindrical part where the bending rigidity is comparatively low.
